    which cam should i get?

Ahhh, the old Wolverine Blue Racer cam!! They used to make some good stuff. I have a brand new Wolverine Solid flat tappet cam and lifter kit sitting on a shelf. Someday I will either sell it or use it. I think it's around 263 - 278 duration @ .050", .577 lift both sides with a 106 Lobe...

    which cam should i get?

They are a nice head. I have a pair of Sr's sitting on the bench in my shop waiting for a new owner. All done and ready to go. I even have a set of Probe shaft rockers to go with them. :)

    which cam should i get?

The World Winsor Jr. is a good head for a mild or stock 302. The Sr.'s are too big for an unmodified 5.0 shortblock unless you plan on spraying it. With 200cc runners the car would be a dog at the bottom end. The Jr's. have a 185cc runner to help keep the torque in check at lower rpm's.

    rear end toast?

Not close to that much. I charge $275 plus parts to overhaul an 8.8. Usuall comes to about $550 to $600 total with gears, pinion bearings and races, carrier bearings and races, axle bearings, pinion seal, axle seals, crush collar, pinion nut and, gear oil and limited slip additive.

    need new hydraulic lifters?

If they haven't given you any problems then there is no need to replace them. The nice thing about hyd., roller lifters is that you don't have to change them just because you are changing the cam. Give them a look over while you have them out. Look for signs of wear, check to make sure the...

    rear end toast?

It sounds like a bearing fried but it also sounds like you will need a complete overhaul. If they serviced your diff and you had to add 2 qts then they didn't put any back in at all since in only holds around 2.5 qts. Get it fixed soon or you will cause more damage. It won't stop whining by itself.

    driveshaft bolts

^^^good post^^^. Locktite is a must on driveshaft bolts. Make sure you get them tight to. Doube up wrenches and really put some ass into them.

    reaching 400 horsepower!

My bros car has TFS 170's, runners opened to 200cc's, raised runners with epoxied floors and a ported super Vic. Its a little too much volume for a n/a 306 but we picked up 1.65 seconds on a 100 shot. :)

    reaching 400 horsepower!

That's not true. My stroked 302 made 605hp n/a and I have the dyno video to prove it. My brothers stock bottom end 306 makes 400 n/a all day with similar parts to what I listed in the above post.

    reaching 400 horsepower!

If you truly have a 331 you will need the following to make 400 RWHP. At least 10.5:1 compression Any good head with a runner between 195cc and 210cc that flows at least 280cfm @ .600" lift Hyd. roller cam with a 230 to 240 duration intake and 240 to 250 duration exhaust @ .050" lift. 108 to...

    1968 mustang rear brakes

No sir. The shoe is usually a little smaller than the drum to make sure there is no interference with the drum face or overhang. A 2" drum with a 1 3/4" shoe is a a good fit. I didn't see in your original post that you had measured the shoe at 1 3/4" already or I would have told you just to...

One like this works great for mild to medium tenion valve springs. I have one similar that I use for the stock style stuff. Performance Tool W89409 - Performance Tool Valve Spring Compressors - Overview - SummitRacing.com
