wow that is great!!! :drool: Since it's a V-8 it might need the lead substitute. 60s were an era of change. normal 10-30 oil should be alright. the valve seats were different back in the day and needed the lead. the type of fuel isn't too important. though i like running the higher octane in my big blocks. just my opinion... probably a professional should take a look at it.
nice car! As you may know, Convertibles were VERY rare in 1st Gen Stangs, on top of that its a 4 speed AND it has the PONY interior, chances are the later too were retrofitted at some point, if they wernt, you have a GEM and if the numbers match it is even more special and possible worth a good chunk of change.

Just read something this morning in the new Hemmings Muscle Machines about modern oils in older cars. My memory is a littly sketchy but if I recall it said that the new oil formulations have no or little zinc and they listed oils that contain appropriate levels of zinc (at least I think it was zinc that was the problem)
EDIT: Read it in the "ask The Auto Doctor" column in Newsday lol, but I got the info right. Mentions Comp Cam Zinc oil additive and Joe Gibbs' brand

Out of 600,000 Mustangs in 1966, ONLY about 70,000 of them were Convertibles. As you can see the Fastback was even more limited, hence the desirability of them and the Verts. YOu car has the "Luxury" pony interior (12,000) and then if you break it down into 289 V8 it will be even more limited, provided thats the way it was shipped from the factory and even if it wasnt, still a kool car

theres still some places that sell leaded gasoline, you have to look hard for them but if not stp makes a led additive that will help, you could convert it to run on unleaded but if the car is as it was from the factory id not want to change anything..my brother in law has a 68 gto convertible and he uses the stp led additive when he has to but theres a place he goes to around here called aviation fuel and they sell the leaded stuff.. i would ask around your neighborhood and see if anyone knows where you can get some.
