You are protected under the M-M Act, but there is also stipulations to protect the maker of the vehicle. Lets not make this into a mud slinging coversation about "dealers" sucking. I personally NOW work out of one and enjoy the benefits of running the performance aspect of it while also protecting Ford's assets and MY job by making sure individuals aren't abusing policies.
Back in the day I had my own thoughts about "stealerships" and the shit I thought goes on there. I was very surprised after coming to work for Sansone and bringing my shop here that all my conceptions were wrong. Id put the skills of 90% of the shop here against any "garage" on a Ford to Ford playfield. The database and tools we have provided, as well as the field engineers to assist us cant be beat. I learn every day here on multiple platforms. This pays dividends on my performance background and makes me a better tech etc.
The newer pcm's are far more advanced from just a few years ago and alot of "Tooning" thats going on out there by various mail order shops etc do induce issues that can lead to failures. Anyone running 26* or more timing on your coyote are playing russian roulette with your motor. I know 70% of the tunes out there in circulation push that envelope. Failures of #8 were not by chance....the new motor is VERY sophisticated and has INDIVIDUAL cylinder requirements. Some cylinders cant tolerate the same timing as others and Ford tunes each cylinder as its self. Not a blanket calibration.
Even the stick cars...the mt82.....who knows what the weak points are of it, it hasnt been in circulation long enough. But you bet your ass if you increase power from 370rw to over 400rw NA and bang gears...Ford will have an issue if they have to replace trans that fail that ordinarily wouldnt at the previous power level.
All im saying....DEVELOP a good relationship with a dealership, be smart about your mods, don't come in waving that M-M Act demanding justice, and take in consideration of all parties involved and im sure you will coexist happily with the dealership of your choice. WE ALL arent evil
Im proud to work for one, especially after coming from a garage/shop background. Theres a much bigger picture I had to open my eyes to.
