    Ok, to recap, because everyone seems confused; heel to shifting can be a good thing, and you still need to use the clutch. Some newer cars automatically rev (blip) the engine when you shift, but you still need to use the clutch. Clutchless shifting should be reserved for NASCAR drivers.

    Some of the newer cars blip the engine for you, so you don't have to think about it, or do it.

    MikeRadMan is correct in saying it is heel toe shifting. It is also called blipping. The right foot covers the gas and brake, while the left covers the clutch as normal. When you go to downshift from 3 to 2 (or whatever) you would brake and tap the gas (blip) to boost the rpm's enough to have a...

    I was gonna say, based on your descriptions, that is how I predominantly shift down anyways. My wife taught me to drive standard 20+ years ago, and that is how I have always done it in my trucks and in the 'stinger
