its not done yet, i go back in two weeks to finish it all off. its going to end up as a shamrock cut out of my skin to reveal the knotwork underneath. the writing around it is Gaelic and translates as "In loving memory of my father" and yes, it did hurt.

from the looks of it, they were spinning on a metal plate. there may have been a nail or some other piece of metal stuck in the tire that heated up and caused an epic failure
