  • First question from the Newbie. 2000 Mustang V6, no bolt ons, absolutely nothing! In your humble opinions, what would be the first 3 best low costing upgrades??? Read lots of info but would like to see a more recent update.

I still believe A freer flowing air filter and larger exhaust will fit into your budget and get you immediate performance up grades. Filters about $45 dollars a free following Muffler anywhere from $70 to $100 dollars, Pipe adapter to take your system up to 2.5 to 3 in. all easily reached in your $1200 and you'll still have money for that gear set..

The injectors will be pricey wait for those nut installing a fuel pressure regulator will prep the engine for more fuel to go with the higher volume of air your putting in. Your computer will read these changes and adapt accordingly.

GTNT, bigger injects and fuel pressure will do nothing on the newer computer controlled cars. its not like the old days when you could swap a holley 750 for your 600 and get gains!

Bot- There are a couple SC kits for 1500ish at the moment, but you need other things first. Im going to assume automatic? In that case- K&N Air filter ($50), and remove your air silencer (free) essentially the same as a CAI just not as pretty. Tuner ($350) will really wake it up in terms of shifting and such. Dual exhaust ($400) Go with a chambered muffler(flowmaster, MAC, flowpath, etc) as a straight through design (such as SLP and magnaflow) dont sound as good on the 3.8. search youtube for some clips. Now you have a good basis if you ever go with FI, or better overall. At this point, I would do 1 of 3 things- A- save for a supercharger. B- hang onto it and look for a 8.8 rearend out of a GT or mach 1, as putting money into yor 7.5 is NOT cost effective. also, the trac lok is no longer available. or 3- buy a set of lowering springs and take off GT wheels for asthetics.
Thanks and thank you for having me!!! Glad to find a Mustang enthusiast site helping NYers. New to the whole modding scene and have no automotive skills whatsoever so I will need as much help as I can get.
