There is never a dumb question.
Well, I have both at my disposal and it's more of my preference. on semi-chilly days... late fall, late spring, we do use the indoor one.
Stove Details | Hearthstone Stoves (This one is a huge and I used it to heat all winter for my first 3 winters in a big ass farm house. It was just me and my two dogs then. But I do love the soapstone. It keeps the heat far better than any cast iron stove I've used.) As I'm aging (yes i'm effing old
) my allergies are not as forgiving. The ash and soot (though not much) has become too much for me. Waking up with pounding headaches and congestion. Don't get me wrong, I grew up with with stoves in the house and they are great. It's just too rough on me.
And with mini-me, having a hot woodstove inside was a concern when he was younger.
For the last four winters I've used an outdoor boiler (still fueled by firewood, WoodMaster 5500) that hooks into the baseboard heating in the house and heats my domestic hot water, as well. It heats betters because it's flowing to all the rooms of the house. The indoor stove only really heated the downstairs and immediate area.
Everyone and every home is different though. The heat retention will be different for each home (mines 150 years old and 3200 sq ft). Newer homes have much better insulation, windows, etc.
