The build begins ...

Well my 2 week stretch of day tour at work has put the big slowdown on getting anything done in the garage.

I got the heads on last night then I snapped a cam sprocket bolt. Luckily I got the threaded end out of the cam. After a trip to Ace Hardware today, timing components are on. Timing cover is on. Oil pan is all set for the turbo's return line.

Just have to finish cleaning the PS pump and oil filter plate, paint and mount them, then the motor will be set to put back in the car.

God I hope so. I don't like the idea of a possible May start up.

I'm off this weekend so I'll see how much I can get done before work on Tuesday. Only thing left for the motor to be complete is the PS pump, valve covers, rear backing plate and oil pan. I have to hang the motor from the hoist to put the backing plate on and i want that on before the oil pan.

Saturday will be valve covers & PS pump. Hang the motor ... backing plate, oil pan, Spec stage 3 clutch then in it goes. Bolt trans back in. Start turbo.

Sounds like a hell of a plan. My car is mostly set. Just trying to find a good intercooler, some piping, Procharger race valve, and an SCT BA 5000 and just get everything hooked up.

Late night in the garage tonight. Making more headway finally.

Transmission is in. Motor is 90% done. Just have to finish the starter, mount my rerouted clutch cable, and work on a coil pack bracket.

Tomorrow I'll get the crossover and turbo mounted up and possibly get some cold side fabbed up.

I'll try and get some pics up tomorrow. Right now it's shower time then bed. Another early start in the morning.

More progress tonight.

Crossover is on and turbo is mounted.


Down pipe is just attached for reference on where it'll go. All the coldside is mocked up. I'll get the innercooler mounted tomorrow before work and finish the coldside. I also know where my flange for my slot MAF has to go now so I can see about getting that welded up.

I still have a long way to go. I have to finish up my suspension and do my fuel pump. I also have to figure out what exactly I'm doing with my exhaust.


Tim I'm trying hard to be ready by the week of the 18th. I can't make no promises tho.

Like I said tho, still a shit ton left to do. I'm sure I'll run into a few more snags before I'm done. I just hope none of them put me down for 1 1/2 weeks again.

Innercooler is mounted and cold side is done. I must say I'm quite surprised by the simplicity of the kit itself. The hardest part is the lack of room but that's our car's fault, not the kit.

Still have to run the hot side and exhaust but I have to finish the suspension first. 2nd part of the down pipe runs through the driver's side A arm and I want everything in place before running it.

Nice. Sounds like your finally getting things going at a steady pace. And I'm glad to hear the install has been fairly easy. Most of the more expensive turbo kits are always a PITA, which is why most just tend to go for the on3 or superchargers.

Not to much done today. I got the oil return line run and had to modify a bracket to clear the serpentine belt. Also dropped off my intake pipe and maf flange at North Country Radiator to have it tig welded.

I'm off tomorrow and Friday. I'm going to try and have everything done except the exhaust and fuel pump.

I'm back on my 2 weeks of 7A-7P on Saturday so getting anything done on workdays will slow. None the less, I'm really hoping for 1st start up on Tues-Wed (days off) or next weekend.

Getting closer but still not there. Got the fuel pump and hot side to finish. Tim I don't think I'll be ready for a dyno tune this week. I'll be extremely happy if I'm just running by next week.

Not sure if you have your cobra ready to roll yet but it's only a 3hr trip out to Pete's so it's something we can do on our days off.

Yea no problem bud. She's coming along great though. I'm off every Saturday anyway. And as long as I have her ready for June cruising I'll be happy. Its gonna take like 7-10 days anyway for my check to arrive, so we don't have to hurry things. And I still gotta grab a battery, and get her on the road. Which I'm gonna hopefully do this week.

Lol I do the same thing when I've done some little touch ups on my Cobra. Trying to save every penny for mods. Once my Jetta is paid off, and a few other bills (by next year I hope), I'll have an easy $700+ each month to spend on mods.
