I guess its about time I started my project thread now that we have gotten into it a little bit. The car is a 86 coupe. It's going to be a driver. I was originally going with a carbed 302 with ported GT40 heads and a mild roller cam with a T5 behind it. The motor build started to lose some steam and even thought about selling the car. I started to look for a complete motor that I could just drop in and found a donor vehicle on this site.

Then it was time to pull the motor and the front suspension out of the 04. We pulled the k-member and motor togetheras one piece. We cut the front end off, dropped kmember on to a cart and put the 86 kmember on the o4.(Norwood, if you see this, sorry about your car!)





04 is now a 4 lug!!

Time for the front end on the 86. We sperated the motor and kmember and put the kmember on the 86 today. We needed to modify the kmember with some slight triming in the back and we had to elongate the lower bolt holes. We threw in new poly bushings and a set of BBK springs as well as UPR camber plates.





Thats pretty much where we are. Next, we will trailer it to my brothers to start preppeing the engine bay. We are using all of the wiring from the 04, as well as the booster which will require minor modification to the firewall

I seriously think this should be an awesome build. The 86 looks great, and with the 4.6 in there, it should be a really nice driver. Good luck with that.

It's been fun so far. It's going pretty good so far. One issue we are trying to figure out is how to keep the stock dash and cluster and make it work since everything is electronic in the 04. We also need to figure out how to move the sn95 front control arms back a bit in the wheel well. On a hard turn they will rub the front bumper.

Interesting build with putting a mod motor in a fox, should be pretty nice when you're done! Some places, make a arms that are moved back an inch, or they use spacers with them. I can't remember where I've heard about them, probably on a forum somewhere.

Awesome build! You should swap the seats and dash/consul into the fox too...it's pretty east to do! Either way it looks great man!

I don't want to do the dash swap, I don't like it. I prefer the stock look, it just may be a problem when comes to the ECU though. Trying to find away around the electronic cluster to make it work.

What about doing all autometer gauges? Or if your good with electronics pull apart the new edge cluster and put each gauge in each of the stock 86 gauge locations? That would be a lot of work but be extremely unique.

Not quite as simple as that, I wish it was. I spent halftime of the SB taking the 2 apart. The problem is the shape and size of the circuit board, I was thinking of possibly making jumper wires from the board to the guages and hiding the cuircut board somewhere underneath the dash, then I would just have to find a way to fit the guages in the housing. Then there is also the PAS to deal with. Gonna need to find a way to disable it in the ECU

ok, so now that I have the both clusters apart, I have a few ideas that would involve cutting up the SN95 cluster.....so if anyone has a spare cluster they would let go cheap for experimenting, let me know!

A little preveiw of our hybrid cluster. We have swithched tach and speedo so the tach is now on the left. Still some work to do, but in the end, it will look stock and should work perfectly
