Gears

I have a '99 Cobra, and am looking to install some gears. I am looking for suggestions on what ratio I should be looking for. The car is mostly stock with basic bolt-ons and will not be getting any sort of poweradder anytime soon. Any help would be appreciated.

does your Cobra come stock with 3.55's? I just purchased 3.73's. I didnt want to ive up traction and create a burnout machine...

I'm lookin for a 12 sec 1/4 mile this summer. I am not concerned about gas milage. The car still has the stock gears at this time.

Are you going with Nitrous or a supercharger? Do you know what the car runs now? Has it ever been on the dyno?

Never put on a dyno. No nitrous or supercharger right now. My best pass at this point was 13.2 @ 103mph on street tires. Very basic mods(cold air, cat back exhaust, mild tune). Pass was made on street tires babyin it out of the hole. Still trying to get used to the car and the IRS. I'm hoping with the right gears I will be in the 12s.

I would say with a good set of DR's and a set of 3.73's out back you will break 12's (if your driver mod stays the same)

His Cobra came stock with 3.27 gears....I would go with at least 3.90 or 4.10 gears!!

with the powerband on those 4v's, most people go at least 4.10's without complaints. those would easily put you into the 12's.

All depends on what kind of tire you're running!! ....saying that, I'd worry more about the IRS!

^ yup. the 99's only had 28 spline axles, and are the weakest of the IRS years. the T-45 will take a good amount of abuse before it blows.

4.30 if you stay NA..... 4.10 if you might do a power added someday...

I put 4.10's in my old 99 Procharged GT and LOVED THEM
My biggest issue after that was even with DR's it was like driving on ice, I sometimes took off in 2nd just so I didnt have to spin and short shift so much

IT WAS A GOOD PROBLEM THOUGH

if you plan on doing the gears yourself you will need a tool that stretches the diff.. for some reason ford thought it prudent to make it difficult for the do it yourselfer. for me 4.10 FTW
