Gear change= Tune change?

Hi-

I'm having my gears changed from the stock 55's to 73's, is a tune change required.

When I had by Saleen it was automatic, so a tune was required.

not exactly a tune but yes they need to recalibrate speedometer for new ratio.

I went to 3.73's myself you will like em and notice a little better difference

kinda. I was steered clear of 4.10's however by some very knowledgeable people, all saying it would've been a traction problem with the torque these machines make. just no need for them. and you loose first gear

I might have thrown caution to the wind if FRPP made 4.10's and my shop only stocked frpp

in hindsight I have heard that frpp offers the best quality gears for these cars and when installed correctly no whine. and I have heard of many terminators getting Motive 4.10's and they are noisy. besides the traction issue

I am happy with em. I think what irishpwr meant be definitely is that you will notice a small but noticeable improvement

make sure they are done right so no whine

When I had my saleen auto I went from 3:31 to 3:73, I was still running the old tune which was for the 3:31 gears, my tun er at saleen said it was ok to run, but I probably would get some CPU error's, which I did. That's because the CPU was reading a signal from the speed distance sensor which was getting faults readings from the new gears.

As 03svt said, you don't need a tune, just your speedo recalibrated. If you have an x-cal you can do it yourself. (as long as that parameter was unlocked by your tuner)

I was concerned running it stock for a day would hurt it, so that's cool. Doesn't seem like theres much to worry about

...If the car has been tuned, you should be fine! ...But never hurts to have the opium tune for the set-up!

Thanks for the input gentleman.

It's at the Ford Dealer now,decided to go with 4:10's, it's not a drag car so I'm not worried about .25 mile times.

Do you mind if I ask what Ford is charging? I went back to 3.55s but would love to go to 3.73...4.10s in my auto was wayyy tooo much for highway use, I dont travel much on highway, but when I do, Its usually 400 or more miles at the time.

by definitely i meant you will definitely need to retune yore car for gears. it is only a speedo recalibration, but when it comes down to it, your speedo will be reading x mph while you will actually be travelling y mph. it may even lead to a ticket
