Forged Internals & Intercooler

Hey Guys,

So the plan was for JBA headers, H pipe, air-to-water Intercooler, 10lb pulley, and a tune from MM...BUT I may have some extra money at the end of the year to be able to buy forged internals including a new clutch and flywheel...

I'm obviously going to do all the work myself except for machine work... but does anybody have any advice and has anyone put forged internals on a 3 valve yet?

I was hoping I can get it up to 12 or 14 pounds of boost without braking anything with those parts.. what do you think?

I don't know much abot the 3V but I have heard a LOT about Livernois being good stuff..

I'm sure someone who knows more than me will chime in.

Yes I do have a 5 speed.. with the kit above I am going to have to go with a Cobra flywheel and clutch since it's an 8 bolt crank...

^^Agreed! Opitz Transmission said they would help me out with that and charge me for parts only if I wanted to come down to the shop and help them with it on the weekends- My friend is the son of the owner.. So I def. have an in on that!

good deal... i know a theres a few companies that make a complete 2nd gear set up. $400+ tho.

Got ya.. I think that if I do everything w/ internals and beef the trans up... and keep it running at 480-500 or somewhere around there with a tune I will be good to not have to change much out like axles this summer until next winter and then change out the axles and diff... etc.

i believe currie makes a 9" swap for the s197

9" Rear is overkill!!! ..stuff the 8.8" with a good carrier & axles and you're plenty good to good!!

Many running in the 8's with 8.8" rear....I ran in the mid 10's @ 132+ and never had a problem!!

an 8.8 held up in the booger. We are trying to go 8.60's with it.

Yes Kyle ^^^....You can get a 03/04 Cobra carrier OR Eaton, Auburn!!! (31 spline carrier's)

No need to go 9" rear the 8.8 with a trutrac is more then enough, stock 31 spline axles are very solid.

as to the tranny - the 3650 is pretty stout, I'd change the motor mounts and add a CHE k-member brace with tq limiters to reduce the flex in the drive line.

why do you say that?

Mine has held up to 100 passes or so, most of which with a spec 3+ clutch, shifting at 6600 rpm and lauching at 4700-5000 rpm.

there are a lot of guys running it at well over 400whp without issue for many many miles
