With a couple exceptions, Ford Mustang sales have* been lower each month in 2011 than in the previous year. Ford dealers have had an exceptionally difficult time moving Mustangs off their lots in the second half of the year, and November was more of the same. Mustang sales slumped to just 3,865 during last month, a 5.6 percent decrease compared to November of 2010. The number also represented a 21 percent decrease compared to the October sales of this year, and the fifth straight month that sales have decreased. Overall Mustang sales for 2011 to date continue to be below 2010 numbers, 65,381 compared to 68,264, a 4.2 percent decrease.
The short-term outlook for Mustang sales doesn’t look positive, as many potential Mustang buyers will likely hold off on 2012 models currently available. Look for higher sales numbers in the spring and throughout the summer of next year as the 2013 Mustang and 2013 Shelby GT500 hit dealers lots.
