exhaust fumes

Recently did exhaust on my 91 Hatch. BBK headers, h pipe, no cats and flowmasters with flowmaster tips. Sounds great, but in stop and go traffic the fumes are gassin me out. Is this typical fox body behavior?

not sure if its typical but i know my 87 and 92 mustang where bad...the 92 was dumped so that could be the reason...if its not typical then id like to know the answer too lol

Ive got the sale setup with bbk long tube headers and I dont have a problem. are you sure everything is tight? Maybe a small crack in floor board? running fat maybe?

it happens.....but yea check for leaks
also i have noticed when the timeing is off it did smell more so mybe check that..

When running without cats the car will stink. Both of my cars are like that.

my car is the worse it actually makes my eyes tear and makes me dizzy thats how bad my fumes are and i have cats maybe my timing off but im def over fueling

my fox has always done it since i went with an offroad h pipe it the cats i believe n besides thats the point of driving a fox b proud i luv that smell everyone in traffic putting there windows up lol but its normal i got long tubes now and still does it

I am also having a fume issue, i am directing it too the rear of the heads where the smog pump crossover bolts to. I cut the pipe, so basically i have to plugs on the back of my engine. But with only one bolt and no more tube, they can swivel. So right now i get an oily fume when the engine is being worked, and while coasting down hill. I haven taken them off yett to see, but it will be next weekends project hopefully. I replaced my valve cover gaskets, and that made it a lot better but still not great.... When i first got my car it had a full exhaust (headers back), and i did not have any vapor in the cabin. My car never had cats to begin with, so it always smelled a little, my diesel also has no cat, the exhaust can sometimes be very sooty, but hey its diesel, and you can tell....

sounds like you might be running a lil rich, dumps will still give you fumes but it shouldnt be too bad........but then again i was driving on the parkway yesterday with open headers so my brain might not be functioning correctly

Yeah, I think I was running a little fat. I went over to Mustang Magic on Sat and asked them to throw it on the lift and give a once over for leaks. There was a little tightening to be done, but we found one of the O2 sensors was in dire need of replacement. Changed it out, threw in new plugs, wires, cap, rotor and did the timing and it seems much better now. I don't think I need to carry an oxygen mask anymore. I'm driving into the city tomorrow, so I'll have a better feel in traffic.
