Agreed with ball joint. Happened to me on a couple cars. grease it if it's not a being damaged problem and your good.

well .. if it continues it CAN be a BIG probloem . my mom had this noise in her 94 merc. cougar . . and ignored it til one day i was pulling out of the driveway and the bj snapped and the car fell with all of its weight onto the left front. . DEF get it checked out . . honestly i would just replace both sides and do tie rod ends too

What stang do you have? Mach 1's had a tsb on rack bushings. Could be a ball joint, but start by spraying the rack bushings with WD40 or PB blaster and work the wheel back and forth and see if the noise lessens.

Here is the rack TSB for 2002-04 Mustangs. http://www.stangnet.com/images/stories/docs/sn95_TSBs/05-14-03.pdf It says it supersedes TSB 04-24-8 which may have covered earlier years.

The problem is not really the bushing but the sleeve, however once apart it makes sense to do the bushings also. I bought poly bushings from MM and the sleeves from Ford when I did mine.

I had a noise in my car when I was turning the steering wheel and it turned out to be the top strut mounts went bad, actually one side but I replaced both.. apparently there are bearings inside the strut mount that are greased and can become un-greased due to moisture.
