Best cold air intake and filter?

I have had on both a K&N and now a JLT, in all honesty, I didn't notice a difference between the two. They are both better than stock, but between them, couldn't tell, maybe on a dyno, but not in the real world. Take into consideration that I have an s197, but I don't think it should matter much.

I think the cold air intake is a waste of time but if you want one then go to a performance shop that does intercoolers and such, get 3" alum. piping 2 feet long, hit up home depot for two elbows and theres your cold air intake. That will be cheap and if you really feel it adds power and you are going for sex appeal of the year, then you can spend 200 or so on a peace of pipe.

I had one for a while and it worked great, I got rid of it when my buddy gave me his new one before he sold his GT.

K&N with this would would quite well...and gain more HP than most of the others really but thats if you want the scoupe or not.

Not likely. Your air inlet is extremely small and that "flex" tubing disturbs the airflow way to much, plus under a decent vacuum it would most likely collapse. In a perfect setup you would have a frictionless material that has a perfectly straight shot into the throttle body.

PVC RAI's are the best solution. Although it is over mere single digit HP numbers.

Hmm, IDK my friend had a ram air setup with that same hose on his Kenne Bell SC'ed 91 GT for years and the car ran a 11.75@119. There is no way that the hose is going to collapse, there is not a filter in front of it to cause a restriction.

There are ALOT of guys on the Corral/Modular Fords/etc that have tested intakes on the dyno and track and say that there are not much for gains on a SOHC 4.6.

On a positive displacent SC'ed car I'd say a good 4" JLT or equivalent is the best but for a NA 4.6 SOHC car you don't "need" a 4" inlet unless you have a serious 400rwhp NA monster.

Like I said, the JLT RAI is under $200 for most apps, and is a nice piece. Their CAI's can be a pita to install sometimes.

Thanks guys. Hey i just got back from E.S.T.A Speedway. What a great day. I met a few guys from POPs racing out of Rochester. Some belong to this site.
