The first of two custom 2013 Shelby GT500s being auctioned off for charity at Barrett-Jackson went across the block today, with the final selling price of $150,000 being donated to the Edith and Benson Ford Heart and Vascular Institute at the Henry Ford Hospital. The one-off Shelby was built by Ford designer Melvin Betancourt, whose life was saved at the hospital. The car features a special paint scheme with white paint and white stripes, white 20-inch wheels, and white leather Recaro seats inside.

This one-of-a-kind 2013 Shelby GT500 was created specifically to raise awareness and benefit the Edith and Benson Ford Heart & Vascular Institute at Henry Ford Health System. The custom muscle car was designed by Ford designer Melvin Betancourt, a former patient of the Henry Ford Hospital who felt he owed his life to their care. To thank them, Betancourt focused his talents on creating this special Mustang. The one-off Shelby sports a stunning white exterior with contrasting white graphics and 20″ white wheels. In addition, the car’s cockpit features white leather Recaro seats stitched with a black contrast thread for an overall design theme that is worthy of this car’s outstanding heritage. This Shelby goes as well as it looks with 662hp to push its top speed north of 200mph. With so much power and style, this Shelby will get any heart racing. Vehicle is signed by Edsel Ford II, Bill Ford Jr. and Alan Mullally. Proceeds from this sale will benefit the Edith and Benson Ford Heart & Vascular Institute, an international leader and innovator in comprehensive cardiovascular care, research and education.
