Class requirements for 306ci maximum, clean up bores, limited funds, easy to build as there is no stroker clearance issues, still make decent hp, no re-balancing because you can usually find .03" over pistons with the same gram weight as stock pistons, adding forged pistons to get rid of the old cast pieces of crap, raising compression for more power, lowering compression for more boost. There are many reasons that's why there are so many 306" engines out there.
