I don't know the area well, but my procrastination resulted in having to stay at the microtel in Victor. Very nice place with great rates. But it was a way out. 20 mins from Geneva and further out from Watkins glen. Would've been nice to be closer with everyone else. And I searched around the Watkins glen, and Geneva areas. Was lucky to find what we did otherwise we would have been in Waterloo or other areas. It's amazing how the hotels fill up in the beautiful area. Btw Watkins glen state park is beautiful with 19 waterfalls to walk past.
Coyote..you're very right! There are not a lot of places to stay out there and they fill up very quickly especially the summer months. I don't want to wait until January again to start planning which is why I'm doing this now.
So if people don't want to pay the $235 I guess that would put us back up in Geneva at the Ramada. If I'm going to spend 4 days out there, 2 of them just kinda hanging around, I want to be by the lake and not holed up in a place with nowhere to hang out and not much to do. I'll keep looking around but would like to hear some other ideas and feedback. What is the top price people will pay before I start looking again?

I agree with Tom, I talked a little bit to Jen about possibly staying at the Microtel next year. Tom and Dave both liked the hotel, and for the price and continental breakfast I think it's a good deal. For me, I really can't see spending too much money just to sleep at a place for the night, since we were gone just about all day, every day. I will also sleep in my own bed this time! 
The Ramada was about the max I would spend for a night at the hotel, of course being a college student, you tend to be cheaper on stuff, lol. If you stay at the Ramada Dawn, we will still come over to hang out. Every Friday night, they have people from all over in their parking lot and stuff so I don't see a big deal of us being there too.

That's what I was thinking, just have to see what my job situation is next year but will definitely be there for Friday to Sunday? If we are still thinking about being there to Sunday morning?
I like that, plus if we will be out there longer next year, the cost will go up for everything so a cheaper hotel would be great.
Microtel is really my fav. For $75 bucks it can't be beat. AND, there is always the window sill sleeper.
I understand you guys wanting to stay at Microtel. Its a good hotel at a good price. I'm actually staying there this weekend. I just can't see staying there 4 nights though. I'll be bored out of my mind! Plus, I don't think they have a pool? I know people really enjoyed their swims last year! I don't like the idea of driving down to hang at the Ramada if none of us are staying there. Just don't think its right, plus worrying about who's going to drive if we're drinking. I also like the convenience of running in to use the bathroom, etc.. I may stay there Wednesday & Thursday. Friday is pretty much a late night and I know we were exhausted last year so maybe I'd stay at Microtel that night and come home Saturday night. I can't see staying Saturday unless I had planned on doing the Poker Run Sunday, just seems like a waste when I can just drive home.
Do we even know what people's plans are? I know myself, Dave & Tom can make Wednesday but do we know when other's are coming out? We need to know these things in order to plan tours. I had really wanted to stay in Watkins Wed & Thurs because I found a nice cruise that is running on Wednesday nights this year. Its called Burgers & Blues and runs from 7-10pm but then we'd have to drive down & back. Plus drive down & back for the track. I just can't find any decent hotels in that area (except the too expensive one). I'm going out there this weekend and going to look around. I'm also planning on doing the boat tour that leaves from Geneva and see if its any good. If we have enough people, we may be able to arrange a cool tour with them.
Maybe we can discuss at the cruise this Sunday.

Also, I will not be going to the show on Sunday, I have too many things going on and have school the next day, if it was Saturday, which it never is, I may have drove down but I'm not doing a 6 hr drive on Sunday and going to school the next day. So, if you guys want to make plans now for next year, that is fine, but I really can't say too much at this point. If this sounds negative, which it's not, just trying to explain what my situation is.
Thanks for the feedback Josh, doesn't sound negative at all. Just remember with reservations that you can always cancel/adjust if needed if things change. But once they are booked, you can't get them! so sometimes its best to get an idea of what you want to do and just book!

It took about 3 hours driving time, no tolls and not much traffic. There were a few slow parts but very fun driving. May want to think about doing this if there are things we want to do in Watkins before heading up to Geneva. I didn't get to do any boat ride due to the weather but I found out about another one that is a little closer and that is the Canandaigua Lady. I think its a paddleboat and has a full bar. Will look into it more. Also, I had dinner & drinks with Phil (GTNGT83). He is a limo driver in the area and will see if he can help us out with doing a wine tour on that Thursday. He's very knowledgeable about the area and the wineries. I think it would be a lot of fun! Some people on the cruise today mentioned an interest in it also. Also, a HUGE thanks to Phil for printing up flyers and handing them out at the Watkins Glen Grand Prix!

OK guys, I looked into the Canandaigua Lady boat ride a little more and I think it looks pretty cool. Its very close to Geneva, real close for the Rochester guys if we want to meet up Wednesday maybe have lunch then go on the 02:30 - 4:00. Its $18 - $21 and they have a complimentary wine tasting from one of the wineries. We could then cruise over to Geneva from there (about 20 min). As I said, Phil will be looking into a wine tour for us for Thursday. For Friday, Josh mentioned he'd like to see the gorge at Watkins Glen so anyone wanting to do that can cruise down a little early before the track. It is $8 per car and would say it takes about 2 hours if you want to take your time.
For hotels, I think I'm going to go ahead and book the Ramada for Wednesday & Thursday since its only $126 those 2 nights. Doesn't look like they are honoring AAA rates on the weekend anymore..WTF? I will book the Microtel for Friday and Saturday. We probably should book Saturday even if we change our minds, you never know if the show gets rained out on Saturday. Hasn't happened yet but you never know. The Microtel has a 24 hour cancellation policy so can be a last minute change. What do you guys think?
