If you can follow directions and have a good mechanical inclination, then you can do it yourself. Get yourself a good shop manual, make sure you have the right tools, and take your time, its pretty involved to do a head/cam swap so if this is your first time, it may take awhile . . . but well...
Happy Thanksgiving to all as well. NP, glad to see this going in the right direction.
yes, you will need new pushrods and will have to use an adjustable pushrod to determine the optimal length to ensure the rocker tip is centered on the valve stem.
yes, TW170 are comparable to AFR185's due...
The viper spec is quite a different t56 then the 03/04 cobras and camaros. And yes the 2.66 1st gear does hurt on a centri charged 302. Need a lot of low end torque but the close ratio is nice.
Both intakes and both heads are good, don't think there's an edge for one over the other. TW heads seem to have a better design to them but I think both the heads you listed will get you to your goals. As an FYI, my combo was holley intake with AFR185's running a TFS stage 1 cam and it worked...
Tw or afr for heads. Holley systemax or edelbrock rpm II. What are you currently running for fuel pump? I have two widebands, lc-1 and uego1000. No complaints on either, the lc-1 is newer with more features for datalogging. There's another popular brand, forgot the name.
yeah the t5's can last. I broke mine running et streets when the car was only making mid 400's. If I were to redo, I would go with a gforce t5. Much lighter and the gear ratios were much more appropriate for the motor I was running. But the viper spec is ohh soo smooth and I don't run a...
Everybody has their own views but on the street, anything much more than 550hp at the wheels will not net you much more . . .traction limited and how many times do we hear about high hp cars getting beat by much weaker ones.
If your motor has 68k miles on it, its just getting broken in. Add...
Well ok, maybe I should have read the first post. +550hp is pushing it for a supercharger. Eliminate the crank load and run a turbo and it could last. Anyways, I would have someone likke fordstrokers build the shortblock. it'll be at least a 5month wait though.
My combo made +500hp at the wheels for 6 years, maybe 40k miles on a stock block with forged pistons and a main support. The shortblock is still running strong awaiting retirement. I attribute its reliability to an aftercooler to keep discharge temps down and constant tunes via tweecer with...
Could be an oil pump issue but only real way to tell, is if you put a real oil pressure guage on it, not sure how much to trust the factory gages and what the actual pressure is, low, middle, high, you get my drift.
Re: POSTPONED: NYM Track Rental Day at LVD - NEW DAY: October 20th
Tim, What RPM were you launching at and did it hook? If you're running the stock 3.55's, that's a painfully low 1st gear final ratio to come out of the hole if it bogs.
