If the crank has really bad grooves chances are it's junk. You can only turn them so far.

Don't forget to get a pilot bearing for the back of the crank. One of those things that is always forgot until you are doing the job LOL.

I do like gear drives, just not the dog bone ones. If you really want one spend the money and get the Milodon gear drive. They are expensive but you get what you pay for. The block will have to be machines for it as well. Had one in an old motor and loved it. I have a Danny Bee belt drive now.

With a stock 5qt pan I would recommend a stock volume/ stock pressure pump. A high volume pump can suck a stock pan dry at high RPMs. Yes you can use hyper pistons with stock rods.

Sealed power is a good brand. It's a division of federal mogul. You can't go wrong with it. Stay away from the "dog bone" gears drives. They are loud, sloppy and have a tendency to "kick back" and lose timing. Stick with a nice Ford Motorsports cast iron timing set.

Cubic inch doesn't determine cam size. There are lots of variables. One of our cars has a 306 with 565/577 lift and tons of duration. It won't make much power with small heads though. Give us as many details as you can about the engine.
