18mpg does not equal 220 to the tank. Either you suck at math, or you're lying about getting 220 to the tank. I doubt you're gonna get too much better on an s2k, especially if you spin it to 9k :D The EPA rates both of the cars at nearly the same mpg

Something is DEFINITELY wrong with your car if you're getting 220 on the highway without beating on it... That means you're getting around 13mpg on the highway which is a joke... you should be getting low to mid 20s on the highway...
