V6 Won't start????Please help

Okay so I recently bought a 1995 3.8, the guy i bought it from told me it has a bad head gasket, When i went to look at it the car would not start all the electrical works after putting in a new battery i decided to buy it anyways since i was getting it for a good deal, my plan is to fix this baby and have it up and running the only problem is i dont know where to start, when i turn the key the car makes a whinning noise the belts turn and all but no sound of the engine trying to turn over....Any suggestions as to what this could be??

The belt turns? Ok so the starter is engaging the flywheel and crank. That's a beginning.

Pull the plugs, if there are any, sounds like either no plugs or the timing chain snapped.

......... headlight bearings .... How much of a bargain is it if you can't make it run??

This could be a whole host of things ... the computer could be bad, 3.8s are notorious for blown head gaskets, could be the coil packs, could be something in the wiring harness, could be haunted/cursed (mine was :nervous: ) ... etc ...

One way you could try to see if it's the computer that's dead would be to connect a scanner. Just read about a guy who had a '94 V6 with the exact same problem you're describing and when he connected a scanner it said that it failed to communicate. He ordered a new computer and that fixed it.
