Serious tho ... $2k for TF heads. MMR has stage 1,2 & 3 porting on them also. Prices are $2500, $2700 & $2900. :(

You ought to buy my stage 2 PI heads for $1k ? :awesomework:

If I can get to 380 at the wheels with my heads I guess I could still upgrade to TF's in the future and try for 400+. :smash:


Ford20 ... I think the 5.8L is a frpp big bore 5.4L. I'm not positive on that but if that's the case then you'd have the same issues of doing a 5.4 swap. The 5.3 BB stroker still uses the 4.6 block so all things 4.6 still work.

OrangeRob runs E85 so it it available locally somewhere. I'm thinking intercooled w/ meth injected and E85 would still be fine with boost when I go there. But that is a long way out.

E-85 at exit 18 and also rt 9 in Lake George :awesomework:

Todd ... that looks like the build in the first video I posted above.

I'm kinda skeptical about it. It just seems low.

Modular Head Shop hit 330whp on a budget 4.6 build with stage 3 heads, stage 3 cams, stock intake and headers.

The 2nd vid above hit 373whp with the 5.3 BB stroker with stage 3 heads, stage 3 cams, typhoon intake and 75mm TB.

Even your TF link showed a cammed 2V that made 305whp jump to 353whp with just the TF heads changed.



Now this guy only hit 393whp with the 5.3 BB stroker topped with TF heads, stage 4 TF cams, TF intake, 11.3/1 CR, electric water pump and aluminum drive shaft.

it be nice to see his dyno graph. i bet the average torque curve is much better on that bullitt that the other cars, and average torque is what makes a car fast

Is there a reason that you are trying to this NA? A 5.3 TFS head engine isn't going to be a cheap route. I also would venture to say that added cost of the 5.3 vs a .020 4.6 isn't worth the added money. With the mod motors there isn't that big of gains with the stroker/BB vs a regular 4.6 vs cost. There is a guy on the modular fords website that has a combo that is a 304BB TFS headed YSI that makes about 10 less RWHP then mine. I understand that 10 isn't something to argue about, so we basically make the same power. But he also running more timing and turning his SC a little bit harder then mine. So I guess IMO it isnt worth the cost.

Todd ... There's nothing being done until next winter but If I decide to sell my heads and get TFs I'll let you know first. Even if I don't switch heads and you just happen to get a set and need help changing them just let me know, I'll give you a hand. The hardest part is getting the exhaust manifolds off.

I figured that for the cost of going FI i could just upgrade the 5.0 stroker to a 5.3 BB stroker and put down what stock SC'd 4.6's are making. But instead of being 50hp or so of the "safe" max output for a stock block, I'd just be scratching the surface of the 5.3 and have a brand new motor.

Yes I'd still like to go FI in the future. That's why I'm trying to stay under 10/1 CR. If not I still have the option of running a blower w/ E85 & meth, or spraying a BIG wetshot with a two step switch.


Also, can you imagine beating a stock 03/04 cobra in a N/A '96 slo-mo-bile.

You need to decide if your going to KB route or the vortech/paxton/procharger route before you order/buy a short block. With a twin screw you want to keep the compression lower, if your running a centri you can get away with a higher compression ratio.

Also you need to shop around on the SC set up. I pieced my together, which I feel is the best way to go. I had under $1500 into the intercooler/bracket/headunit and 8 rib kit. That is when my car had an S-trim on it. The YSI I bought new, which was expensive.

I made all the intercooler plumbing myself. Once you get to that point, I can help you make the plumbing, if needed.

For What it is worth there is a guy (BruceH) on S197forum that is running E85 and I THINK Meth and 19 lbs. of boost while having 11:1 compression. I remember you saying that you were thinking about it but didn't want to have to change out your pistons to lower the compression ratio to run boost He seems to be running fine and not having many issues with his setup. It may be something to look into if it is possible, maybe get some more HP out of your N/A application

jpicc ... $1500 is a great price for piecing a kit together. I was roughly thinking $3500 between a used "kit" & all fuel work and other odds & ends to go with it. Centri or twin screw was going to depend on price. There isn't too many options for a twin screw on a 2V.

I'm assuming that the reason for the difference in CR between the two would be a centri builds boost where the twin screw is more instant. :idk:


Anyway, the new short block was always set in stone. Now the issue is I can't budget the rest of the car. Getting some type of blower with the SB my stock T45 wouldn't make it thru the 1st season.:nono:

This was when I came across the FRPP big bore iron block. Now I'm thinking about putting the $3k towards the short block upgrade, an intake, good cams & springs and the ability to turn the motor to 7000 to 7500 RPM.

Yes I know I could make more power with a SC but if I can reach 375-400 at the wheels N/A & have a brand new motor that can handle anything I throw at it in the future I'd be happy. My stock drive train should last long enough to get upgraded after.


btw ... have you ever run that Edlebrock intake N/A ?

My car still has a stock Tremec TR3650. My car has been at it's current power level all last year. The car was in the 500-525rwhp range the year before that. Never had any issues with the transmission.

My car has never been NA since I've owned it.
