Mustang Magic will likely do the install, but I was thinking to check out Super Street Performance in Farmingdale. MM guarantees the gears for a year. $50 for speedo recalc, or I can buy a hand held tuner.

I drive my car from as soon as the salts off the roads untill the salt hits the roads again...i HIGHLY reccomend not driving ur car in the winter with ne tire other than snow tires.(personaly i wouldnt drive it at all in the winter) but hey thats ur choice...they say be carful with dr's in the cold and/or rain. but its all in your foot. if you dont drive like an asshole than you wont have ne problems...drove my car with 400rwhp with baldino 555R's the past month with no issues...it's all in how you drive.

*i recomend getting the tuner tho*..you can feel the difference and you might not have any plans now but in the future with more mods you'll feel the increase more from mods and a custom dyno tune, which you'll need the tuner for.

Thanks man, was thinking of an SCT tuner. Hopefully I'll feel gains with just a catback, x-pipe, CAI, and gears.

Go with 4.10, I know a few mustang owners who wished they went with 4.10 instead of 3.73

oh no, not even close. I'm assuming your stock rims are 8 inch wide as my premium stockers were 17x8 all around. Even going with a 275 is pushing it with 8. Generally the safest and the best handling tire size to rim width is 245 on 8's 275 on 9's and 315 on 10.5's.

thanks man, its a bit old but its still good for comparing gears, with the 2.73s the 1st gear takes foreverrrrrrr. That was even down a little hill with the 2.73 one and it still seems like from a dig it takes a day, haha. Lovin the 4.10s though , kind of wonder how 4.30s would feel like compared to my old 4.10s:headbang:

Sorry for being so naive. So $500 gears may be more like $1,500 after new wheels/tires. The "black deep dish bullitt" 17x10.5 wheels from AM.com look nice. Can I get smaller front rims and keep my current front tires?

Or maybe stay as is, go with 3:73's and hope for the best :awesomework::thumbsdown:

you dont need new rims and tires when doing gears. Just something to correct the speedo. Of course with the older sn95s 94-98 you need to do a speedo/drive gear swap to correct the speedo. With 99-04 its electronic so a tuner will correct it.

Love your car BTW! My Father is 78 and his DD in Tucson is a 96 Cobra :rock:
I don't technically need tires/rims, but I'd want to get the most out of gears and sticky rubber seems almost a necessity. So I'd get 3:15's and would need compatible wheels.

do the gears for now drive around and have some fun... when you want to get new rims and tires do so then... thats what I did..

thanks, its come along way since i bought it (before pictures in the video, haha)

i always wanted to put a cobra bumper and hood on it but all my money went into performance, lol.

I just want to make sure though... you put "3:15's" as in a ratio. when ppl say 315's they mean 315 mm wide tires. I drove around on 245mm tires for a while before my wheel/tire swap. Honestly if you get 315mm wide sumi's the grip isn't that great I couldn't cut under 2 seconds for my 60' time.

Honestly if you get some drag radials for your stock wheels youll have much more grip then normal street 315mm tires. I can get my car sideways easy with 4.10s in 2nd gear even with 315mm sumis.

just go out and get a sticky 245 or 255...i put 255's on the front and 275's for my back tires...the 275's bulge a touch but nothing 2 serious...they say the 555r's arn't as wide as some DR's.. never had a problem with 275's...like every-1 else said. either burn up the tires you got and then go out and get rims and tires...or like i said just put a stickier tire on the back thats not so wide..size isn't everything..softer compound is the key.*

I do realize 315 is relates to the tire size. I try to make relatively wise financial decisions and rims were never on my list. But I'll consider them if it relates to performance.

I watched some Mustang 4:10 vids and most seem to shift close to red line. My car has a nice scream at 4,000 rpms, I can't imagine regularly going to 6,000. I know it's up to the driver, but I do tend to drive it like I stole it.

I plan on getting gears in the Spring and I'll be sure to give an update. I love Mustangs and this site, thanks again for the feedback! :stang5:
