BFG's are a great drag radial but dont expect 2 see many miles out of them...i'm going nitto b/c of the price and decent amount of tread life. they wont hook as well as the BFG's. but will out last them by thousands of miles...and u'll only need the 2 rear tires.

thnx for the advice. i have 3 questions regarding gears now...

1- is it true that they lower your speed at any given rpm?
2- will i have to recalibrate my tranny in order to shift properly? (its an auto)
3- and will it affect the exhaust sounds since changing gears will also change rpms (and exhaust sound, if im guessing correctly)

1 - Yes. I don't know the exact calculations but it's like putting a bicycle into a lower gear, you peddle the same but go slower.

2 - Not positive about shift points, but you'll have to recal the speedo.

3 - No, not really. Your cruising rpm will be higher. So if 50mph was 1800 in 5th, with new gears it will sound like it did at 50, but you'll only be going 45.


My #'s in the third answer are just for example. Like I said, I don't know the exact calculations but I'm sure there's a site on the web that you can run your ratios thru.

personally i think 4.10's may be a bit much for an auto. unless your gunna be building a drag car. yes you should get it tuned for the gears, unless you want it to shift like a 125cc dirtbike (idk some people like that). 3.73s would be a good bet especially if you plan on doing anything big like a blower. dont waste your money on a "shift kit", you can do the same thing through a tune. and yes it does increase rpm at any given mph, thats how changing to a lower gear works. it makes a huge difference. best mod for the money imo. oh and dont worry about leaving it stock. only 141 of my roush were built and its #9 and i've done quite a bit. exhaust, intake, pulley, guages, interior parts, hood, tinted lights, wheels im sure i forgot sime stuff. but you wont enjoy it and have fun with it when its stock.

thnx for helping my anxiety about leaving it stock. as for gears, i think 3.73 is the way to go? ive been doing some heavy reading on gears, and ive been seeing that with 4.10's anything past 65mph is not good. im doing alot of daily driving in the city with the car so mostly >40mph, but when i hit the highway, i let her rip 70+ and enjoy the cruise. i dont want to throw on a gear that will hinder my cruising speed. also, what is this im reading about people saying with 4.10's you loose stability and drivability?

well 4.10s arent that much more of a jump. pry like 300 rpm at 70 im estimating. just wind it out. i have 3.73s and have no problem running 110+ for a few miles when need be. these mod motors dont mind being reved, peak power isnt till like 5k anyway
