I was lucky to grab an 04 Mustang (3.8L) in a so-so condition at good price. And I am planning to do something to make it cool again. As it was sitting in the garage for a while, so there are certain problems about it.
I recently looked underneath, and noticed that the Y-pipe corroded (or was damaged, cannot say for sure) and is no longer good. My Mustang has got dual exhaust, by the way. And I thought that if the rest of exhaust pipes and stuff is fine, I'd better replace that single tube only, as too much has to be invested into this Mustang anyways. And I guess I'll install the new catback later on... Anyways, wanted to ask you guys, if the aluminized stainless steel exhaust y-pipe is a good idea? Will it work fine with the rest of OE exhaust pipes? As I do not feel like I want the OE y-pipe, too expensive and as I said, in a year or 2 will get a new catback there anyways....
So what are your thoughts? Maybe anyone replaced the y-pipe only? Would be thankful for your comments and ideas.
Man, it's too bad to be fixed. Looks like it was damaged or bumped, and then corroded, so the metal there is no good anymore. So I will think and maybe still get that aluminized pipe (something like this https://www.carid.com/exhaust-y-pipes/), and in a year or 2 at max (hopefully it will last) will change the whole catback to something cool, like Borla or Corsa... Just need something to work there temporarily.
Man, I simply cannot afford it for now. As I said, I am planning to get a new catback, for sure. But now spent money on the vehicle, plus there is a lot of other stuff that I have to fix or replace... And you know, I was looking for a sort of temporary measure to at least make my exhaust solid with no holes haha
