Why is 86' GT exhaust different?

I like the long tips that come on the 86 GT exhaust. I always have liked that look. What is it about the 86 that is different from my 91?

The older GT's dont have the bodykit so theyre more like an LX.

Your GT has a rear bumper that doesnt allow the tips to show.

+1, you exhaust has turn down behind the bumper cover, please don't cut holes in it, it looks like ass...always. If you want LX style tails, get a Cobra bumper.

Thanks guys. That's what I wanted to know. I wasn't sure if it was a fitment issue with hangers and such or if it was just the rear bumper. I knew my bumper was different and would have to be modified but I found a picture of a GT with the holes in the rear bumper and you are correct, it looked like ass. My headers, x pipe and cat back should be here by wednesday. If any one is looking for factory headers, factory catted mid pipe and a flowmaster cat back, I will have them off the car by tuesday.

Just so you know your can just change the tail pipes to the LX style and run a Cobra or Saleen rear bumper, other wise the exhaust would look weird with the turndowns not hidden.

how much for the catback? my friend needs new pipes, his 23 year old mufflers just gave out!

and hope to hear Betsy with the new pipes sometime this summer, should sound great
