European automotive television shows are generally unkind to American cars. Whether it’s the lack of refinement, quality issues, or styling, the Europeans generally find something wrong with automobiles that come from the United States. But what about a car like the 2012 Mustang Boss 302? When we first tested the car earlier this year we couldn’t find much wrong with it (although we’re perhaps a little biased), so what would a car show like Fifth Gear have to say about Ford’s track-ready pony car?
Surprisingly, they mostly agree with us. Host Vicki Butler-Henderson took the car to the legendary Le Mans circuit and declared the Boss 302 “the best American muscle car I’ve driven to date.” Surprisingly she also heaped praise on the car’s road manners. “I was really surprised at how relaxing the car was. On the route doing 70 mph in sixth gear it was unbelievably quiet.” Of course, Butler-Henderson does have a few quibbles, namely the spartan interior. We have to disagree with her take on the Boss 302′s handling – she refers to it raw and lacking finesse, despite passing two Ferraris and Porsches on track.
