You might recognized the 2011 Ford Mustang pictured here, as it won 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords ‘King of the Street’ competition for 2011. Owned by Chris Cruz and built by Evolution Performance, the Mustang puts out more horsepower than just about anything on the street and is capable of laying down incredibly quick times at the drag strip. At the time of the competition, Cruz’s Mustang was producing a little over 800 rwhp, good enough for a high 9 second time slip. Since then, though, the guys over at Evolution Performance have turned up the wick and the car is now putting out a touch over 1,000 rwhp and 1,070 lb-ft torque thanks to a fully built engine and 24 pounds of boost coming from a Whipple 4.0-liter supercharger.
So how does Cruz’s Mustang perform at the drag strip now? Evolution Performance recently took the car out to Maryland International Raceway to find out, and the result is the second fastest 2011+ Mustang 5.0 in the country. The fastest? Another 2011 Mustang built by Evolution Performance, of course. Cruz’s Mustang started out the day with a 9.38 pass, and the times kept dropping from there – 9.31, 9.21, 9.18, 9.01 and finally an 8.99. Amazingly, all of the passes were done using the Mustang’s stock 6-speed automatic transmission.
