Going to be installing a vortech supercharger with air to air cooler and vortech racing bov with blow through housing and HPX MAF, I have accel coil packs, stock injectors, just replaced spark plugs, somewhat new fuel pump, sct Sf3 tuner, 4.10 rear end gears. I only wanna run 6-8 lbs of boost. Can I get away with a safe tune with stock fuel pump and injectors? Not gonna track the car, just weekend driving. Obv opening up on the highway sometimes. Anyone have any info or done this? Any help appreciated. Also can I get an email tune from sct or something ? Will car be able to drive after installing it to a Dyno tune shop ?
What size Pump & Inj's do you have and what HP are you at now ???
What you have to understand is a good Centrifugal Supercharger set up can easily add 60% more power. So the million dollar question is can your current pump & inj's handle 50% - 60% more hp/tq than you have now?
I put a Procharger P1SC on my 99 GT and it added 60%, put down 384/384 on the dyno which is quite a difference from its 260 at the flywheel stock numbers. 4.6L SOHC
I have a Procharger D1SC on my 04 Mach 1 and that also picked up 60%,
pushing the limit and a little shy of 450 RWHP on the dyno. 4.6L DOHC and also quite a difference from it's stock 305 at the flywheel numbers
Both use 90MM MAF, 42lb Injectors, 255LPH Pump. No way I would run this HP on 24lb inj's or a 205 pump, amof my Mach 1 could use more pump than the 255. A good tuner can give you a start up tune for the added supercharger as long as he knows your complete set up. Hope that helps....
I thought Saleens were supercharged with a small Eaton ?
Go with vortech v3 self lubricated.
Stock pulley is a 3.60. Next down is 3.48
Air to air piping will take some / alot of thought.
All piping / connectors can be found on Silicone Intakes.com
I used a vmp maf in their 3" tubing.
Make sure there's 6" of straight tubing before and after maf.
Bov goes between head unit and intercooler.
Need a good vacuum source for the bov.
I went with cobra injectors.
And aftermarket fuel pump. There's a bunch of pumps.
Only the focus pump or the walbro is suppose to be a direct fit.
Plugs you need to run colder.
There's 7 or 8 different S281's some are SC some not, thats why I'm asking not sure what he's starting with ???
Heres the set up in my current Mach 1
You are so right about having enough straight before and after the Maf, I had some tweaking to do on my 99GT with the blow through set up and even had to clock the MAF to get it right. I used the SVT Focus pump and modified my stock basket, I also bought all my piping from Silicone Intakes but I cheaped out and went with rubber.
I actually installed it all one Sat by myself and was driving boosted that night It's really not a bad install once you understand where everything goes. Most of the day was actually spent detailing the engine compartment and the transformation for one days work was amazing.
It's a 99 GT. Saleen kit. 4.6l v8 non supercharger 2v. Never had it dyno'd. Not sure hp wise where I'm at. I had a sct email tune. The tune in it only incorporated the are cold air intake I have. Obv that'll change with the vortech. Motorcraft spark plugs. Accel coils. Stock injectors that aren't too old just replaced the seals on them. Stock fuel pump. 8 psi is the most I wanna boost I'd wanna run. I would like to be at 6psi. I'm just wondering can the stock pump handle bigger injectors (not super big) cause I really don't wanna drop the tank and buy another pump if I don't have to. Lol
IMPORTANT.....because you have a 1999 gt.
The mounting bracket / hardware for a 1999 IS NOT THE SAME as 2000 to 2004, because of a different timing chain cover.
Definitely do at least the boost a pump.
The hpx maf is good.
I didn't like the included air filter pipe because it's weirdly shaped and puts the air filter in the engine bay.
I made my own power pipe and kept the filter in the wheel well.
Really Nice Set Up On Edge and I really like what you did with the Air Intake
I friggin hate how my plastic air inlet tube looks and how they squish and wedge the filter in an area it cant fit
Saleen, very smart move buying larger Inj's and using the new MAF. KB Boost-A-Pumps work very well and I've used them with great success, based on how you say you'll be driving and using low boost you'll be fine.
I lucked out with my bracket, I actually bought my Procharger kit for my 99GT used and it was from a Cobra. I found a used Bracket on line and then sold off all the stuff I didnt use.
I also didn't like the plastic tube, plus I definitely wanted my cold air intake to actually suck in cold air from the fender well.
I didn't want to spend $275 for an Anderson power pipe so I made my own from silicone intakes.
$80 for the 2 couplers an 4" aluminum tubing.
I wish I could get more HP without blowing up the motor.
**** what is that red tube that's connected into the tube right before the throttle body. ??
19 lb injectors will not supply enough fuel with a supercharger install. at 100% duty cycle you'll be good to 4000 rpm and 3 psi, if even that. you will need a boost-a-pump or higher flowing pump. I got 10 psi with 3.6 pulley, 12 psi with 3.48 pulley. You will need a dyno tune regardless because guessing at the AFR will either result in too rich or too lean. For someone to GUESS the right tune is unlikely. No two engines tune the same. You won't know if you F'ed up the plumbing unless you dyno the car anyhow. Blow through is tougher to plumb. You'll need a MAF extender because the OEM Maf can't map such air quantities.
I think you need to do more research my friend.
