Ford hasn’t allowed any media outlets to drive the 2013 Shelby GT500 quite yet, but the guys over at Car & Driver have come closer than most. SVT recently invited the magazine out to Ford’s Dearborn Proving Grounds to ride shotgun in the new Shelby, and C&D has just published a report on their web site.
While Car and Driver’s impressions of the new GT500 were fairly limited, they did praise the handling despite the test car wearing performance-limiting winter tires.”The suspension does a remarkable job of keeping the tires planted coming off elevation changes, and there is no perceptible body roll,” says author Steven Cole Smith. The new stability control system also received high marks – “it’s so good in sport mode that you have to wonder if you need to.”
Car & Driver also published some additional info that Mustang fans might be interested to hear. For starters, the magazine says that the 2013 Shelby GT500 will likely be priced at just under $60,000, although not by much. C&D also reports that production won’t be restricted, and Ford will build as many as they can sell.
