More engine rumors have surfaced. The latest and greatest engine rumor is courtesy of PickupTrucks.com who also brought us the spy photos of the 5.0-liter V-8 'Coyote' engine. Now they are claiming from their sources a 5.0-liter Twin-Turbo engine code named 'Road Runner' is in the works for the 2012 Shelby GT500. As much as I would love to believe them I just can't. I just don't think Ford would create such an engine when the supercharged 5.4-liter has been so stable and trustworthy over the past three years.
What we do know is there is an engine in the works code named 'Road Runner' but the specifics are unknown. If we are to believe the old cartoon with the Road Runner and the Coyote then we would have to assume the Road Runner engine would be just a bit more powerful than the 5.0-liter 'Coyote' engine to outrun it and never be caught. My assumptions might be right for once as Brad Barnett over at TheMustangSource has posted in his forum saying the 'Road Runner' engine will be a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V-8 with a slight bump in horsepower and higher RPM's than the stock motor. What Mustang would this engine go into you might ask, well Brad seems to think it will be a 2012 Boss Mustang. He could be right given the rumor a Boss Mustang is in the works.
All these rumors are fun to throw around but until we have some good solid facts to go on we will just have to play the waiting game.
