I wish i could go with an IFS or something of the sort, but its out of my budget. if you have a 1" sway bar, i'm definitely interested in it. Is it a front or rear? Also, I definitely want to do the shelby drop to the car. When you've done it, has there been noticeable difference? I figure with new shocks, struts, upper and lower control arms, the monte carlo bar, shelby drop and a pair of sway bars i'll be fairly set. Should i look into roller spring perches aswell? I want the car to handle as well as possible, but understand it can only be so good.
And the car does have power steering, so i assume it has the quick ratio box.
On a different note, do you know of any good rear-disc conversion kits?
For the record Mustangs left the factory with independent front suspensions, one side works independent of the other. The Shelby drop is a good mod, Are you running headers? If so what type? I've seen where street cars with full length and even tri y headers and the drop will bottom out a lot more frequently so that's something to consider.
Springs and shocks are very important in any suspension,so good ones are a plus,You might want to figure out what you have?I've been known to remove and toss near new springs and shocks if they weren't what I wanted. Struts...... Your car doesn't have any???? Your car does have strut rods, you should check the bushings and if they are worn or cracked you should replace them with rubber bushings .They make these in poly but if you value your life don't use these.(Story for another time).Roller Spring perches are up to you, they aren't necessary but they are a nice improvement ,I have them in several cars, for a while a friend(he's a fabricator and he owns a 66 G.T. Vintage race car) and I were collaberating on these,I can see if he's still making them?
Remember everything is a trade off ,the more radical you go with the car the harder/stiffer it's going to be in terms of daily use. Four wheel disc brakes there's a ton of options, once again budget and intended use.Are you building a road course car? If you're looking to run something on the street Rear disc aren't really very necessary,I'd say definate front disc with new rear drums(possibly larger) and you'd be in good shape.
As far as the quick ratio box you can chek it by turning your steering wheel lock to lock and counting or you can look at your tag. I've seen power steering cars that had the quick ratio box replaced with the less desirable box.
I will look at my sway bars this weekend and let you know what I have,I definately have a 1 inch front. If your box isn't quick ratio I have a gang of these as well(one of the perks of parting out G.T.'s over the years.
