how to lower the carburator timing

Try this link. 750 cfm sounds too big. The problem with your 650 may have been too small discharge nozzles, the 650 was most likely poorly tuned. Holley Interactive Carburetor Selector

    1967 with a worked 390 - can't get it started

Be careful, if the carb dumped enough gas, the fuel may have made it to the crankcase and thinned the oil considerably.

Don't forget to tie down the car in a trailer.

You would be surprised. I saw a guy towing a car on a single axle home made trailer that was smaller than the car that was on it. He strapped it down with 2 little straps that went over the top of the car. If I had my phone on me I would have taken some pics.

tapping from upper end of 5.0

+2 on the rebuild. As long as the piston walls aren't tore up too bad, you can get away with a .030 bore and hone. You have a good mill on your hands. The 86 HO is a heavy walled roller block with "squared bores". Nice stout engine... That being said, the tick may be a lifter tick, or a exhaust...

    E85 in a foxbody??

A lot of guys at the track switching to e85. It usually costs less than half of what you pay for racing fuel. The down side is that you use more of it. From what I heard, it also keeps the engine cooler and consistent (good for bracket racing). The guy that I know that runs e85 tuned his...

Interesting information about inline 6 vs. v8. It makes me wonder what the capabilities of a inline 8 would be.

    Altronics o2 data acquisition?

I was wondering if anyone has, or has heard of a good data acquisition system for a early carbureted 302. I was thinking of getting the Altronics OA Alert warning and recording system, but wasn't sure if it would work on a carbed car.
