I don't know about aluminum inserts but this is a common problem with the 5.4l's. They use steel insterts for the repair. You might have better luck trying to use one of those. NAPA sells them if I recall.

The best guess I could come up with is your fuel pump. Turn the key to the on position with the engine off and see if you hear the noise. If you do that would be what you are looking at I would think. Hop out of the car and trace the sound.

Well all of the mach 1's that had the ram air option had the 2v carb. According to the marti report this car is a 1 of 1 car the way it was built though. I don't think that adds to the value at all but I guess it would be hard to know unless I actioned the car off.
