Paint Job

Hi,

Just wondering, how much would you expect it to cost to repaint my 01 Gt convertible? I was going to start getting some estimates and was hoping for a ballpark figure from anyone who has gotten their's repainted before.

My car is black, I would be looking to repaint it black. It's taken a beating over the years.

With no rust, or any other work (dings, or deep scratches) you could probably find a Maaco or Earl Scheib type place around you house to do it in the $500 range. Keep in mind, that will be taping off lights and trim... not removing it. The cost goes up dramatically when the labor intensifies. Dollars add up fast when you pay someone to remove trim, lights, and mouldings @$65-$100 an hour. Another factor is the type of paint you use. Acrylic enamel with a hardener (catalyst) or lacquer with be the cheapest paints, all the way up to the basecoat-clearcoats urethanes. Again with the bc/cc paints you are doubling the labor by spraying the car twice.
One way to cut costs would be to find a shop that will let you do the body prep (example...remove trim and lights, sand out scratches, fill small dings) and just have them do the priming and color spraying, If this is possible. Many years ago I did this on a corvette, and saved my self about $3000. (Estimate was for $3795... at the end I paid the shop $950 for masking, materials, and labor for spraying the paint)see pic below...

Good answer. There are so many variables to take into account when trying to figure out what paint job to do. I did all the preliminary work on my 88 including spraying the trunk and the door jams to save money. It all depends on the value of the car and your budget. You can easily put a $5k paint job on a $4k car. By the way I have had good success with the $50 2 gun paint kit from harbor freight
