My ecu is inside the fender, so all those wires are gone. Anthing that needed to be lengthened I did, and the excess I cut and shortened.
I would also get a pad and write down what colors you used for each connection. This way if there might be a problem, you can easily trace it.
Steps I did for each wire was:
Cut
Label
Write down color going to use and where it goes to
solder
test continuity and impedance
heat shrink
Repeat!!
Time consuming, but avoids any chance of a electrical failure, then again, I Love wiring, it makes me happy.
