I had the Cobra out all day yesterday and today all was fine.
Today after driving it for maybe 1-1/2 - 2 hours straight me and the kid got stuck in fri night mall traffic / rush hour traffic. It's pretty hot out, ac cranking, hot sunny day, motors running @ 180 - 190. All of a sudden bam my fuel pressure drops to zero and it stalls.
I push it to the side and turn the key and can hear the pump but it clearly dont sound right. Then all of a sudden a few seconds later you hear the pump pick up to it's normal sound and bam the fuel pressure comes back. You start driving and get maybe 2 block and bam it drops to zero and stall again.
You pull over wait maybe a minute, turn the key and again you hear the pump but it just dont sound right, a few seconds later bam it sounds normal and the gauge goes to it's normal 38-40 PSI. A block or so later bam no pressure...
I managed to make to my parents house and I gave it the once over and started it again and BAM all is normal. Drove home and all was back to normal (oh great now what ???)
So the million dollar question is, DO THESE PUMPS OVERHEAT ???
Has anyone ever had a simular problem with one ???
Am I suppose to go out and buy a 300 - 500 dollar pump or take the chance that this is going to happen again ???
NOTE:
I also have a Pump Controller that I was told to keep on 24/7 (except on the 1320). If you switch it off and let the pump run balls out you can clearly see the increased fuel pressure and hear the pump running balls out. I tried that when it had no pressure and it didnt help, not until you hear the normal whine of the pump and then bam you get your pressure back. (another words same thing in either position.
Now it's fine and back to normal, could it have just overheated ?
Is that possible ? Normal ? or do I need to buy a pump
The problem clearly seems to be in the pump, not the regulator, not the controller, def aint a fuel filter (one minute you have 40lbs the next 0, then you shut it off wait a minute restart and you got you pressure back.
ANYONE EVER HAVE THIS HAPPEN TO THEM ???
Hell we got the Montauk cruise coming up and I dont need no stinking problems all of a sudden
