One of the reasons I stopped posting in this forum is threads like this. Too many purists, to many people telling others what they should do and them arguing about it instead of listening to what the OP is actually asking. 1st answer the question. 2nd if you can help the current situation then do it. Every thread of this type turns out the same way and the OP disappears into the background while everyone else bickers about who can tune FI, who can't, who has the most money to tune FI and why carbs suck.
Now to the OP:
You can use your stock FI fuel pump with a step down regulator that will get you down to the 5 to 7 psi needed to run a carb. An MSD distributor with a 6al or Mallory unilite dist with a Hyfire 6 box would be the best for ignition. A quick fuel carb is the best bang for your buck. Fuel mileage will be a direct reflection of how much you keep you foot into the secondaries. Me? Fuel consumption has never been one of my concerns. A nice Parker Funnelweb, weiand steath, performer or Vic jr inatke can be picked up used for a decent price. The intake you chose should be based on the head, cam and ci combo you currently have. A carb will not change enough in atmospheric conditions to really notice anything unless u drive it in the winter.
Now, FI is nice for a daily driver, boosted application and someone who has the time, knowledge or money to tune it correctly and really wants to (fine tune every aspect of the throttle position and atmosphere).
My wife's '94 is nodded and fuel injected. All our race cars are carbs.
Good luck with your project and stay focused on your long term goal. Don't make changes you can't use in the future.
