Trying to put together enough pennies to search for a used 2011/2012 in the spring time. Some of you may remember I had the car listed for sale as a roller last year when I realized my engine was shot (no oil pressure due to spun bearing(s)). Anyway, I pulled the listing down when I found a 1996 Explorer motor with only 80k miles for sale on corral. I spent the better part of last winter pulling the old motor, freshening up the Explorer motor and getting it back to good. The car runs like hell, and I got it to go 13.02 @ 106 with a 1.85 60ft on 17in drag radials. With a better tire and a real driver this car will go mid to high 12s all day. I enjoyed the project, and had a great time driving the car to shows this summer, but I just don't have the time to enjoy it as much as I could due to having 2 small kids. I would feel a lot better/safer driving them around in a later model stang than a foxbody.
Anyway here is what we did to the Explorer motor:
1) Ford Motorsports B303 cam (sounds freakin awesome)
2) Scorpion roller rockers
3) Longer pushrods to allow for cam.
4) Trickflow valve spring kit
5) All new wires, rotor and cap
6) new oil pump and pickup (nothing wrong with the old one, but while it was out we figured why not)
7) 24lb injectors
When we pulled the old motor we scooped out the tranny with it:
1) Had Justin & his boys at Huntington Transmission freshen up the T5 with all new synchros and cleaned up the box real well.
2) Put in a new Ford Motorsports clutch
3) Hurst short throw shifter (not in picture below, but it is in now)
Other Mods not related to the engine & tranny project:
3:73 gears
disc brakes 5lug conversion
Steeda ball joints
Steeda bump steer
Steeda adjustable caster camber plates
8 way adjustable shocks and struts
Eibach pro springs and sway bars
Tubular control arms upper and lower
poly bushings
All new brakes calipers pads rotors and braided line master
BBK headers
BBK hpipe
Flow master exhaust
BBK Cold air kit
76mm Mass air meter
Walboro 255lph fuel pump
Aluminum Driveshaft
Driveshaft safety loop
Newer interior carpet
Newer seats
Newer door panels with custom running pony and mustang on them
Newer headliner, package tray, sills, and all new weather stripping
New Heatercore 2 years ago
17" bullit wheels and tires
Clear headlights
65 MM throttle body
BBK Fuel pressure regulator,
hose kit from Ford Racing (blue)
Hurst Line lock (at least I think it is hurst, but whatever the brand it works great).
GT40 upper and lower intakes & heads that were standard to the '96 Explorer
One thing that has always annoyed me is that the parking brake was not connect after the prior owner did the 5 lug conversion. I bought the cables, and will give them to the buyer, but they are not installed.
I am def forgetting stuff, but I will update the thread as I remember.
I am asking $6,800 or best offer. I am flexible, but if I don't get a reasonable offer I will keep until the spring. Best way to get me is email dantonacpa@yahoo.com or text/cell 516-457-9782.
