I'm looking to replace the brake shoes on my 1969 Mustang coupe and find that there are different sizes based on engine size. This car has a V8 302 and from what I've found online, it looks like I need 10 x 2 1/4 on the front and 10 x 1 3/4 on the rear. I also need to replace the brake adjusting cables which I am guessing would be the 10 inch. How can I confirm this? What is the best reference I can get for this type of information?
The best way to do it correctly would be to pull one front wheel & one rear wheel & measure the size shoes you have on you car now & order replacements according to what is on the car. My 69 Coupe had 10" x 1 3/4" shoes in the rear.
Thanks. I was planning on doing that except I read somewhere that the actual dimensions did not match the stated sizes - for example, that the 10 x 2 inch shoes were actually slightly more than 2 inches wide and could be confused with the 10 x 2 1/4 inch shoes.
