Hey guys,
So as the year comes to a close and I have alot of time to ponder what will be done to the racecar for the spring. I'm at a crossroad... Offroad mid-pipe: to RACECAR or NOT to RACECAR!
I've done a bunch of research to save alot of time, but I can't seem to find a solid consensus. If at all, I plan to get an offroad h-pipe. I have RTR axlebacks and they're already sweet sounding as they are so a little louder/deeper would just seal the deal, along with being cat-less. So I was wondering what you guys do when it comes down to inspection, and being hassled.
From what I've read, since I'm still new to the area, NY performs a visual (sometimes) and plugs into the OBDII for inspection ('14 GT). I could have a tune to alter the O2 sensor to have it pass and keep it off so there isn't a CEL (there are issues involved with that as well I've read).
So the best solution I've found is to install pipe, install tune, and enjoy. Then when inspection time comes around (luckily at the beginning of the season), swap back the stock pipe and tune back in and drive around a few days (100mi or so). Then back to RACECAR status.
My concerns are:
- I typically don't get pulled over and haven't heard any real horror stories about fines/tickets about swapping out CATs. How bad could it really be?
- Will the performance boost really be worth it? I've read they don't do much for newer cars as well. I plan to stay N/A for the foreseeable future. Planned additions are CAI, Boss Mani, full tune. So I plan to be in the mid 400s at the wheels. There's no point in spending the time/money for 2-3hp.
Thanks in advance!
